Cetanautics is a sweeping, historical and literary exercise in speculation. Charting a course alongside a current of our collective unconscious, this text seeks to establish the early American whaling industry, as a kind of lodestone for the emerging trends of the eighteenth century. Evolution, temporality, and speculation. Through this historical narrative, I seek to highlight a moment of transformation, in which the material world and temporality become affixed to the paranoid apparatus of speculative capital. Against this apparatus, I seek to create an opposing speculative cosmology, which centers temporality, complexity, and play. A cosmology that opens up the possibility of radical transformation. Unchained, from the certainty of speculative capital, what can a human being be?
